My Coaching Methodology

The Thought Work Model 

As the basis of my coaching I use a framework which leverages principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients understand the interaction between their thoughts, feelings, actions and results.  I help clients distance themselves from unhelpful thoughts to create the results they want in life.  

Thoughts are not Inherently True  

A fundamental premise I build my coaching on is that thoughts are not inherently true. They are just sentences in your brain that have been absorbed over time by living in our society. Once we stop believing all of our thoughts are true, we can begin to analyze and select the thoughts that we intentionally want to believe in.  

Feelings are Created by Thoughts

It is foundational to my coaching practice that our feelings are created by our thoughts.  This is at odds with what we are taught, which is that our feelings are created by the circumstances of our lives (what happens to us, what others do, our jobs, houses etc).  Once you see this link for yourself it shifts how you approach life.  

Actions are based on Feelings 

We take actions based on the feelings we feel in our bodies. This principle is more straightforward, as it is easy to see that a confident person will likely take a different set of actions than someone who is plagued with doubts. The trick here is that you can impact your feelings by choosing your thoughts. 

Our Actions drive our Results

Ultimately the actions we take in our lives create the conditions of our lives.  We often confuse this.  We think that the results will create our feelings.  But it’s the other way around. Our thoughts create our feelings, which lead to how we act in the world which lead to our results.
