For when you don’t know what life coaching is but you kind of what to try it.
I often get the question, what is life coaching? Obviously there are many ways to coach, and I can’t speak for all life coaches. But the premise of most life coaching is that we can greatly change our experience of life by examining our thoughts and choosing what to think on purpose. Or more commonly known as mindset. It’s not woo, it’s practical.
Working with a coach helps you make more logical decisions, ones unclouded by emotions. We don’t ignore emotions, we help you process them and then decide from a place of grounded certainty rather than emotional activation how you want to move forward.
‘‘I have never worked with a life coach before Kelsey. I have had therapy, and I’ve had coaching for career development at different points in time. But this was different. This coaching helped me understand the ways that I was getting in my own way. I had not realized that I was making it so that I would not move forward with my job search. The mindset I had was keeping me stuck.
And I don’t think I would have realized that this mindset was limiting me without Kelsey’s help. That is the gift she brings. The process was gentle, I never felt pushed to do something. But her questions revealed to me where I was keeping myself stuck. I trusted that she was leading me in the right direction and it has completely opened up the scope of what I thought was possible for my career.
Now I believe that I can have a second career that can be as fruitful and fulfilling as my first 20 year career. I didn’t believe that before we started coaching. Now I see that someone out there needs my skills and knowledge and my energy. And believing that it’s possible means I’m getting out of my own way and taking the steps I need to in order to make it happen.
I was surprised by this. I didn’t really know what to expect from a life coach. I didn’t know what ‘mindset’ coaching was let alone that I needed it. But I have to tell you, everyone needs this. It’s so powerful.’’
