How to make a change when you don’t feel ready.

It’s easy to let our aspirations and dreams fall to the side in the day to day of life.  I was recently talking to a client who told me she had been thinking about making a career move for years without doing so.

This is a fiery, passionate, determined woman who is an undeniable asset to any team.  In her work life she had a bias for action and a continually high level of productivity.

So what was stopping her from making a change?

It was mostly the fear of feeling uncomfortable.  She knew how to do her current job. She was well regarded by the team and the company.  Starting over meant having to put herself out there in a new way.  It meant having to have uncomfortable conversations and negotiate. It meant having to sell her capabilities to someone new.

I’ll cut to the results. In a matter of weeks after we started working together my client had a new job offer in hand at a company she really wanted to work for.

What changed?  She had decided that she was willing to feel uncomfortable for a little while in order to get what she wanted.  She grew her capacity to tolerate anxiety.  She did some things even though she was scared.  And she realized that it wasn’t as bad as she had been making it out to be.

If you work with a coach you don’t have to be uncomfortable alone.

Here’s what my client said about working with me:

‘’One of the things I’ve loved most about coaching is that it’s given me a space to show up for myself on a weekly basis. It gave me a place to be accountable to myself. I wasn’t afraid of Kelsey’s judgement but I wanted to come here and feel confident that I did something for myself which helped motivate me to take action throughout the week.

I have been thinking about making career moves for years. Working with a coach helped me actually do it. Kelsey held a mirror up, so I could see what thoughts and fears were holding me back. She let me talk things out and that helped a lot.  There were certain weeks where going after my goals felt insurmountable, but the coaching helped so much in dealing with those weeks.’’

If you’re thinking about making a big career change next year, then also think about the support that will help you follow through and succeed with that change.  Book a free session with me at https://www.kelseyseppacoaching.com/work-with-me
